Free Pistol

Free Pistol is a challenging precision shooting discipline where competitors use .22 calibre single-shot pistols to fire at targets 50 metres away. Recognised under ISSF rules, Free Pistol demands extreme focus, control, and consistency, as shooters aim at a target with a tiny 10-ring just 50mm in diameter. The pistols used are highly specialised, with minimal restrictions on design – they often feature long barrels, light trigger pulls, and ergonomic grips, all tailored for maximum accuracy. The course of fire typically involves 60 shots over a 2-hour period, making this one of the most mentally and physically demanding events in pistol shooting. Free Pistol is a core event for serious competitive shooters and is often considered the purest test of marksmanship and discipline in the pistol category.
